Who we are

Mosestro is a business-entrepreneurial company founded on its founders’ vision of finding gas and oil energy resources in Israel.

The name “Mosestro” combines the name of Moses with the word MAESTRO, which translates as “master craftsman.” The combination alludes to the challenge of combining professionalism and excellence in research with the national goal of strengthening the State of Israel.

Energy is the source of life. Finding energy resources is a challenging and difficult task, but also a great privilege that contributes to the prosperity of the country and the strengthening of its security. Meeting these challenges strengthens Israel’s energy security in all its implications for national resilience.

Mosestro was established as a business-economic company. However, it also has professional motivations related to the development and research of geological models for the purpose of finding these important raw materials. Meeting these challenges contributes to all of the above and, above all, strengthens Israel’s energy security in all its aspects, which contributes to national resilience.

Oil and gas are considered among the most important raw materials in the world. Their products are now the main driving force behind global transportation. They are used in many industries, primarily in the plastics industry and its various components.

Energy is the source of power that drives today’s global economies and is a prerequisite for most of the household activities we perform as part of our daily lives. Today, the state is committed, as part of its contract with its citizens, to provide them with energy at all times and at reasonable prices that enable them to purchase that energy. The main expression of this is the systems for generating electricity and transporting it to the end points where it is used to operate countless electrical appliances that help us improve our quality of life.

Today, as part of its contract with its citizens, the state is obligated to provide them with energy at all times and at reasonable prices that enable them to purchase this energy. The main expression of this is the systems for producing electricity and transporting it to the end points where it is used to operate countless electrical appliances that help us improve our quality of life.

This responsibility requires the state to plan for future energy supply. The State of Israel operates under extremely complex geopolitical constraints. This complexity requires preparation for future situations in which Israel will be forced to provide energy solutions without relying on external sources.

Developing these sources involves many challenges: safety preparations to prevent malfunctions in the production and supply chain, security preparations that enable the use of these systems in emergencies such as war, and preparations to prevent pollution and environmental damage in the context of energy production, storage, and transmission to consumers.

Beyond its energy uses, it is important to note the importance of oil as a raw material for the petrochemical industries. The global plastics industries are largely based on polymers produced from oil refining. It is difficult to imagine our world without the plastic components that surround us. Some examples include irrigation pipes, furniture, essential products in the automotive industry, means of communication, and countless other products. The use of plastic also poses challenges arising from slow decomposition processes, pollution, and more.

The search for energy resources on land in Israel has yielded few successes. Mosestro was established as a research and development company based on the vision that Israel needs its natural resources, including gas and oil. In 70 years of geological research on land, only two oil reservoirs and one gas reservoir (Halutz, Meged, and Zohar) have been found, despite numerous observations and hundreds of exploratory wells. In order to determine whether gas reserves do indeed exist in Israel, the founders of Mosestro decided to re-examine and re-collect all the data that had been gathered in the past and analyze it using advanced geophysical technologies that were not available to earlier researchers in Israel. To this end, the company invested considerable effort and established an extensive database containing all the seismic information collected in Israel to date. By reprocessing the data using advanced techniques, the team built new geological models, which identified a new, deep exploration target that was previously unknown – “Sifra North.”

Sifra Ma’arav
The erosion that occurred in the Negev during the Lower Cretaceous highlights the differences in the accumulation patterns of Jurassic sediments near the Mediterranean coastline.
Structural maps of Israel
Structural maps of southern Israel constructed from seismic sections collected for the project. These maps show for the first time the deep layers in the geological section.
Sifra North
Following a tender process, we were awarded a government concession to conduct exploration in the designated area known as “Sifra North.” This project is named after Shapira, the late wife of the company's chief geologist, Dr. Yuri Voloz.

Environmental responsibility

The discovery of gas and oil reserves can have an impact on the environment. Mozstro does not deny this impact, but has undertaken to minimize it and to give high priority to nature conservation and environmental considerations in its decision-making process regarding the location of exploration sites and the technical preparations for their implementation. As part of this commitment, the company has developed an environmental code of ethics that includes a number of principles.

  • No drilling will take place in areas designated as nature reserves or national parks.
  • The company undertakes to shorten any physical exploration activity, including test drilling, to a period of less than one year.
  • The company undertakes to restore the drilling site to its previous condition.
  • The company is committed to conducting an in-depth environmental review as part of the feasibility studies for the research and in order to find a solution that best combines the findings of the environmental review with the needs of the research.

Before selecting the site for the test drilling, Mozstro commissioned a detailed environmental survey from Geoprospect in order to make an informed choice of this temporary site. Please refer to the attached survey.
