The erosion that occurred in the Negev during the Lower Cretaceous highlights the differences in the accumulation patterns of Jurassic sediments near the Mediterranean coastline. A unique carbonate reef from the Nir-Am Formation stands out at the edge of the Jurassic carbonate platform. This reef is a prominent feature of the Upper Jurassic, but in some places it is interrupted due to erosion. The erosion of the Gvaram Channel is an erosion event that occurred between the Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous. The reef was cut by this submarine erosion and subsequently filled with sediments of clays belonging to the Gvaram Formation. In the nearby Halutz field, Jurassic rocks from the west served as the source for the Lower Cretaceous sandstones. To the south, remains of the reef containing oil deposits were found. Using a 3D seismic survey, Musstro intends to locate oil reservoirs within the Jurassic reef.
